KUCHING: Sharon Lee Mei Yee, 31, drove home a brand new Isuzu D-Max Prestige, after being named the grand winner of the Maggi’s ‘Jom Masak & Menang Besar 2018’ contest.

Her victory was made even sweeter as she also celebrated her birthday on the same day.

After the confetti settled, Lee – an auditor from Kuching – told reporters that she was elated to learn that she was a finalist, and nervous about the challenges she had to undertake during the grand finale with fellow finalists Ng Eng Lam, 66, and Ang Yew Siew, 72.

Ng and Ang were named respective first and second runners-up, taking home RM5,000 and RM3,000 worth of electrical goods, respectively.

Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik officiated at the ceremony.

In his speech, Ik Pahon said Sarawak is blessed with many cultures and local cuisines.

“The ministry is willing to collaborate with Maggi in introducing unique Borneo flavours to the market,” he said, pointing out that Maggi is one of the best known household names in Sarawak.

The annual competition, which ran from May 1 to June 30 this year, was organised in connection with the Gawai Dayak celebration as part of Maggi’s continuous efforts to engage and reward individuals and families for their strong support to the brand over the years.

“The purpose of this contest was to reward our loyal customers, while embracing the communal spirit of Gawai Dayak because that is what lies at the heart of the Maggi brand,” said Nestle ( Malaysia) Bhd– Sarawak branch manager Dave Bawa.

He said this year’s edition marked another milestone for Maggi as it recorded a 20-per cent increase in participation, over that registered last year.

Maggi received 117,184 entries from Sarawak, and 127,199 entries from Sabah.

The ‘ Jom Masak & Menang Besar 2018’ grand finale of the Sabah edition would be held this Aug 4.

“This is testament to how well-received this competition is amongst its loyal consumers, as well as how our brand has stood the test of time,” said Dave.

Participants also had a chance to win weekly prizes and also the RM100 bonus cash prizes for every 1,000th qualified entry throughout the campaign period.

During this period, a total of eight roadshows were held in Kuching, Sibu and Miri every week, where visitors were able to participate in fun games that Maggi had prepared for them.

The activities included cooking demonstrations and also exciting giveaways for shoppers who purchased Maggi products.

It is estimated that Maggi had reached out to over 5,000 Sarawakians throughout the twomonth roadshow.
