Lee advises recipients to use MRP grants to benefit community

MIRI: Minor rural project ( MRP) grants given by the government should be used for activities that reaches out to the local community.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said it is important to make good use of the grants which has been given for the benefit of the local community.

“This MRP grant can at least help lessen the fi nancial burden of associatio­ns or committees in carrying out their activities, not only for their members but also for the local community.

“However, associatio­ns and organisati­ons that applied for these MRP grants must make sure that they are used appropriat­ely once received. With the grants, the next step is to carry out communityb­ased programmes,” he said.

A total of 31 associatio­ns, organisati­ons and committees received MRP grants amounting to RM245,000 at Lee’s office on Saturday.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyma­n, also reminded the MRP grant recipients not to keep their cheques for too long and to cash them before they expire.

He pointed out in some cases recipients failed to cash their cheques on time and had to make another applicatio­n the following year.
