MIRI: The inaugural Fiesta Merbau organised by SMK Merbau at the school recently in conjunction with its Cooperatives Day was a great success.

The fiesta publicity officier, Zainab Abdul Rahman, said it was truly a day of fun with 27 stalls set up for games and also for the sale of food.

“Students and teachers gave their full support in making the fiesta a success.

“The stalls, set up by school clubs and societies and uniformed groups, were well patronised. The Haunted House, especially, attracted a large crowd,” said Zainab in a statement yesterday.

There were also competitions on sports and games as well as an exhibition showcasing students’ work, held at the school hall.

Miri District Education officer Shirini Mastura Mohd Zulkifli officiated at the opening of the Fiesta which was held from 8am until noon.

She congratulated the school for initiating the fiesta, adding that it served as in ideal avenue for students to showcase their skills especially on what they have learnt from their teachers in school

She was confident that the fiesta could achieve its aim of offering students a learning experience outside the classroom.

The fiesta, themed ‘Soft Skills Lead the Future’, also promoted students’ good health and their active involvement in co- curricular activities.
