Marcos eyeing more glory in the near future

KUCHING: Rising star Marcos Chang Hao Hong is hoping to get a call-up to join the national para bowling squad after his impressive performanc­e in the World Para Bowling Tour Sarawak, Malaysia which ended at Megalanes Sarawak, E- Mart Batu Kawa on Saturday.

The 13-year old student of SMK Bandar Kuching bagged one gold and two silver medals in the four- day tournament which saw world class bowlers from South Korea, Hong Kong, Philippine­s, Indonesia, Thai land, Japan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, India and Malaysia in action.

Gyeong Ho by just 57 pins.

His second silver medal came from the TPB9 + TPB9 doubles where he partnered another Sarawakian Abang Yusdi Anuar to register 2,423 pins, finishing 58 pins behind the Korean pair of Mun Gyeong Ho and Min Jin Ho.

The major surprise came in the TPB9 all- events where he won the gold after registerin­g 1,231 pins in the singles, 1,311 in the doubles and 794 in the trios for a grand total of 3,336 pins.

It was a sweet victory as he had lost to all- events silver medalist Gyeong Ho on two earl ier occasions.

He also contribute­d one of the two gold medals won by the national team. Malaysia finished in third place overall with a tally of two gold, five silver and one bronze medals.

Marcos was especially thrilled as it was his first appearance in this championsh­ip.

“The all- events gold really made up for my disappoint­ment in the singles mixed on the first day as I was targeting to win the gold,” he said when interviewe­d during the victory banquet at Imperial Hotel on Saturday night.

“I would like to thank my parents and brother Morgan for their strong morale support, coach Angelo Koay for his guidance, ABAS and Persatuan Tenpin Bol ing Para Negeri Sarawak for giving me this great opportunit­y to compete in the World Para Bowling Tour,” he added.

He wi l l be represent ing Sarawak again in the Sarawak Leg of the Sportexcel-NSC-MiloMTBC National Junior Circuit in August and the Sukma Para Games in Perak in September.

“I will be playing in the Boys Graded category where the competitio­n is expected to be quite stiff,” said last year’s Boys U12 champion.
