South Korean bowlers sweep all opposition in World Para Tour

KUCHING: South Korea lived up to their top billing in the World Para Bowling Tour Sarawak, Malaysia at Megalanes Sarawak, E- Mart Batu Kawa when they topped nine other teams in the four- day competitio­n with 19 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals.

On the final day of competitio­n, the trio of Kwon Min Kyu, Min Jin Ho and Hong Won Ju felled a total pinfalls of 2,407 for the Trios TPB8 + TPB8/9 + TPB9/10 gold.

In second place were August Hernandez, Christophe­r Yue and Kin Ian Tan Chi of the Philippine who managed 2,371 pins while Shin Baek Ho, Mun Gyeong Ho and Sim Jin Yong took the bronze with 2,296 pins.

The second team gold for the Koreans came from the Trios TPB1 + TPB 1/2 + TPB 2/3 where Oh Tae Guen, Lee Kun Hye and Bae Jin Hyung recorded a total of 2,211 pins.

Kim Jung Hoon, Koh Young Bae and Lee Jae Youn completed a one-two finish for South Korea when they registered 2,197 pins, finishing just 63 pins ahead of third placed Kanju Mori, Masatoshi Kiyosugi and Toshio Ozaki of Japan.

Thailand claimed their first gold in the championsh­ip when the trio of Suppart Poningmad, Somsak Ruamsab and Chawat Achatongku­m won the Trios TPB8 + TPB 8/9 + TPB 9/10 event after posting a combined score of 1,886 pins, which was 521 pins more than Indonesia’s Prayitno, Irvan and Agus Supriyanto.

Indonesia also bagged the bronze through Wisma Wijayanto, Tetuko Hary Seto Wijoyo and Jaya Kasuma who felled 1,848 pins.

Hong Ka Lung, Yuen Wing Shan and Chan Tat Chung handed Hong Kong their second gold when they knocked down 1,667 pins, followed by Singapore’s Kelvin Tan Wei Lian, Naufal Afandi and Thomas Nathan Chan Kim Yong (1,211) and the combined team of Yang Hyun Kyung, Choi Jae Yeon and Kiattikarn Manokham (1,904).

Meanwhi l e , the Kore an contingent reaped more gold medals in the all- events through Kim Jun Hoon (TPB1 Mixed), Koh Young Bae ( TPB2 Mixed), Bae Jin Hyung ( TPB3 Men’s), Choi Jae Yeon ( TPB3 Women’s), Shin Baek Ho ( TPB8 Men’s) and Sim Jin Yong ( TPB10 Mixed).

Breaking their monopoly in the all- events were Sarawak’s Marcos Chang Hao Hong ( TPB9 Mixed), Wong Mei Lan of Hong Kong ( TPB8 Women’s) and Elsa Maris of Indonesia ( TPB4 Mixed).

The winners received their medals from Amateur Bowling ( Tenpin) Associatio­n of Sarawak ( ABAS) president Sunny Si, ABAS vice presidient Robert Lu Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n head of technical department Gordon Hon, administra­tive officer of ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Early Childhood Developmen­t Matthew Chin, Korea Bowling Associatio­n for the Disabled president Jung Sang Ik and Malaysia Para Bowling Council president Haf idzah Abdul Khafidz at the victory banquet held at Imperial Hotel on Saturday evening.

Also present was pro- tem president of World Para Bowling Tour George Tan.
