Singapore opposition parties express desire to cooperate
SINGAPORE: Several opposition parties in Singapore came together to explore the possibility of working closer to present a unified front at the next elections.
In a statement issued here, the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) said it took the opportunity to propose that presidential candidate Dr Tan Cheng Bock help lead the effort in building such a coalition. SDP had on Saturday hosted a working lunch and those present welcomed the move.
“With his experience and leadership,” SDP SecretaryGeneral Dr Chee Soon Juan said, “the SDP is confident that Dr Tan will be able to lead the effort.”
According to the statement, the luncheon saw leaders and representatives of various opposition parties express their enthusiasm in greater cooperation with one another.
It was attended by leader of the People’s Voice, People’s Power Party, Democratic Progressive Party, Reform Party, National Solidarity Party, and Singaporeans First Party.
