MCC to pursue GK Pujut roundabout project
MIRI: Miri City Council ( MCC) will write a letter to Works Minister Baru Bian on the need to implement traffic improvement measures for GK Pujut roundabout.
Mayor Adam Yii said the RM12- million project for the roundabout was approved by the previous federal administration.
“The traffic improvement project is a public project which is highly demanded by the people in the city to ease the traffic congestion in the area. MCC will write a letter to Minister of Works Baru Bian as well as to Miri MP Dr Michael Teo.
“He ( Dr Teo) will assist us to follow up the matter with the minister. Let’s work together in order to make this project a reality,” he told the media after chairing a full council meeting yesterday.
Earlier, MCC city infrastructure standing committee chairman, councillor Abdullah Jaini expressed concern that the proposed GK Pujut roundabout project has been put on hold by the new federal government.
He said the project is vital as it will help ease traffic congestion for the affected areas particularly during peak hours.
The GK Pujut roundabout is the main route for road users from Kuala Baram, Senadin, Permyjaya New Township, Tudan and Pujut to the city.

On another issue, councillor Keith Chin highlighted the need for the council to expand Bulatan Park in view of its popularity among park-goers and joggers.
Yii responded that he agreed with Chin and personally felt that the council should start the process of acquiring the nearby empty state land and converting it into a green area under the Bulatan Park expansion effort.
Earlier, Yii announced that MCC has successfully upgraded its ISO certification from ISO 9001: 2008 to ISO 90001: 2015. He was subsequently presented with the new certificate by MCC secretary Morshidi Frederick.
