SIBU: Police are looking for a 40-year- old man from Kanowit to assist in their investigation into the killing of a 26-yearold woman at a rented house in Tiong Hua Road here on Aug 2.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the picture of the man whom he identified as Philip Uja has gone viral on social media, linking him to the case.

“As such, we need him to come forward to assist us in our investigation,” he said.

The woman, who only got married last year, was found dead in her rented house with her hands and legs tied behind her back.

The victim, who worked at a government department in UTC Sibu, was discovered by a colleague who went to check on her after she failed to show up for work.

The woman, who hailed from Kanowit, lived alone at the rented house. Her husband is working in Tatau.

Stanley said the woman had in the past told her colleague that the man had disturbed her.

“Moreover, on Aug 1, her neighbours also saw a man coming to visit the victim about 8pm,” he added.

Asked about the social media report that went viral that the woman was raped and murdered, Stanley said it could not be ascertained yet.

“We are still waiting the results of the post-mortem,” he said.

Several forensic experts arrived from Kuching yesterday morning and visited the house where the killing occurred.

Meanwhile, police have also gone to the 40-year- old man’s longhouse in Kanowit to look for him but to no avail.

Members of the public who know his whereabouts are urged to contact Sibu Police Station on 084- 336144.
