Snatch thieves on the prowl in resort city

MIRI: A promoter of a shopping mall in the city centre here lost her sling bag in a snatch theft incident after she had finished work on Thursday night.

The victim, who is in her 30s, was on her way to her car when the incident occurred around 8pm at a parking spot outside the mall.

She told police that two unknown men on a motorcycle grabbed her handbag as they rode past before speeding off.

The victim, who lost her personal documents and some cash, lodged a police report following the incident.

In a separate incident, a man in his 30s lost a wallet he was holding to a snatch thief.

The incident happened around 10.45am when the thief who was on a motorcycle showed up from the back of the victim who was about to enter his car which was parked at the back of a bank here.

The thief managed to escape the scene and the victim reportedly lost RM2, 500 cash, his identifica­tion card, driving license and an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card in the incident.

He lodged a report at Miri Central police station.

In another snatch theft incident which occurred here yesterday, a 21-year- old lorry assistant lost his backpack which contained an identifica­tion card, an ATM card, some cash and his car key.

The victim told the police he was busy unloading ice at the market around 6.30am when an unidentifi­ed man on a motorcycle approached him and grabbed his pouch.
