Beauty contest now open to local and foreign single ladies

KUCHING: Miss Tagang Semadang beauty contest is open to single ladies, local and foreign, of all races this year following keen interest shown.

According to the event’s coordinator, Alvine Ngu Fung Ling, contestants must be between 17 and 30 years old as of Sept 1, 2018.

“They must be at least 5ft tall and those who have won other beauty pageant contests at state, national and international levels are also eligible to participate,” she said.

She added contestants are required to attend training sessions and rehearsals at a venue to be decided by the organiser.

The marking criteria at the final would be as follows: beauty ( 50 pct), dress ( 20 pct), Intelligence ( 20 pct) and poise (10 pct).

“The champion will receive RM1,500 cash, a crown, trophy, sash and supplementary prizes while the first runner- up will take home RM1,000 cash, a crown, trophy, sash and supplementary prizes while second runner- up will get RM500 cash, a crown, trophy, sash and supplementary prizes,” she disclosed.

Consolation prizes of RM200 cash each will be given to nine winners.

There will also be a subsidiary title up for grabs - Miss Popular Tagang International 2018 who will receive RM500 cash and a sash.

Alvine said the preliminary round to pick the best 12 contestants will be held on Aug 12 while the final will be held on Sept 1 in conjunction with the official opening of the 4th Semadang International Tagang Festival 2018 at Kampung Semadang, Borneo Heights Road, about 40km from Kuching City.
