No Native Customary Rights land issues in Kedup, says Martin Ben

-

KUCHING: Native Customary Rights ( NCR) land is not an issue in Kedup, assured Kedup assemblyman Martin Ben.

He said as far as Kedup is concerned, most of the NCR lands are part of Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority’s (Salcra) development area. He noted most of the NCR land developed by Salcra had been gazetted under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.

“So I believe there is not much NCR land issue in Kedup and in Serian for that matter because most of the NCR lands have been gazetted under Section 6 of the Land Code,” he said when met after the official naming of a stretch of road after his father the late Datuk Michael Ben in Serian yesterday.

He was asked if NCR land is a major problem in his constituency.

At the Sarawak legislative assembly ( DUN) sitting last month Martin noted that some 12,000 hectares of idle NCR lands had been developed into oil palm plantations adding that plantation development began in early 1990s.

On the current status of treated water supply project for Mongkos area, Martin said it was already about 16 percent completed.

He said work on the project was going well and he believed it would be completed on schedule.

He, however, did not mention when the project would be completed.
