BCF can be as grand as RWMF — Rogayah

SIBU: The annual Borneo Cultural Festival ( BCF) can be organised on a grand scale like the Rainforest World Music Festival ( RWMF) in Kuching as it has a lot to offer to foreign tourists.

According to BCF 2018 organising committee chairperson Cr Rogayah Jamain, the cultural festival showcases the various ethnic cultures compared to the RWMF which focuses on music only.

“We believe we will be able to improve and hold it on a grander scale to lure more foreign tourists in the coming years,” she said when addressing an appreciation dinner hosted by United Chinese Asssociation ( UCA) Sibu for organisers and participants of the BCF Chinese Cultural Festival at a leading hotel here on Saturday night.

Rogayah who is also the deputy chairperson of Sibu Municipal Council said she was pleased with UCA’s support and cooperation to SMC which greatly contributed to the success of the BCF.

Saying that she was much touched by it, she said other ethnic groups need to emulate the Chinese for their spirit of unity.

“I could see that at the Chinese pavillion of the BCF, there were many Chinese associations coming together in the spirit of unity to hold their various activities and programmes.”

She was also glad that this year’s BCF was organised more successfully with all canopies set up uniformly.

In his speech earlier, president of UCA Sibu Ngieng Ping Sing said the just-concluded 10- day BCF had been impressive due to the coordination and close cooperation between all parties and members involved.

“We, the committee members of UCA, would not have been able to achieve such a great success without the input and participation from our fellow members and associations.”

He appealed to SMC to allocate more funds for them next year and assured to do their best to put the BCF on a grander scale.

He hoped both private and government sectors continue to work hand-in-hand to enrich the Borneo culture, and to enhance harmony and unity among various communities.

Also present at the dinner was Lanang MP Alice Lau.
