New Malaysian envoy to Uzbekistan pays visit to TYT

KUCHING: The Malaysian High Commission­er to the Republic of Uzbekistan Hendy Assan paid a courtesy call on the Yang diPertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at Demak Jaya in Petra Jaya near here yesterday. Hendy, 48, is from Bau. He began his career at the Foreign Affairs Ministry as the assistant director in 1995.

He has served under the Malaysian Embassy in several countries including Senegal, Italy, China and Japan.

His last posting was as the ministry’s East Asia secretary, before being appointed the ambassador to Uzbekistan for three years.

He departs to the republic this Aug 13.

In his remarks, Taib expressed his hope that a Sarawakian would be the one to bring Malaysia and Uzbekistan closer together.

The two countries have had diplomatic ties since 1992.

According to Hendy, apart from introducin­g and encouragin­g tourism between the two countries, he also aims to bring some investment­s into Malaysia, especially Sarawak which has a multitude of unique features to explore.

Foreign Affairs Ministry Sarawak director Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh was present during the courtesy call.
