‘No decision yet on setting up Bersatu branches in Sarawak’

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( Bersatu) has not made a decision on setting up branches in Sarawak, said its secretary- general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md. Salleh.

He said that for now, the party’s top leadership council was deliberating on the matter and that a Special Committee would be set to look into it further.

He noted that only the council had the powers to approve setting up of divisions or branches in the various states or the Federal Territories.

“As for Sarawak, the council has yet to approve the setting up of any division or branch.

“Bersatu chairman and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has in principle agreed to Bersatu’s plan to spread its wings to Sarawak but it’s execution is still under deliberation by the council,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Yesterday, it was reported that there was a meeting of Bersatu leaders in Kuching on the setting up of branches. However, a protem chairman of a division, Johan Mohamad, denied this and labelled it as ‘fake news’. — Bernama
