Company fined for failing to pay Socso contributi­on

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined a company supplying kitchenwar­e products RM5,000 for not making Social Security Organisati­on ( Socso) contributi­ons on time.

Magistrate Afidah Abdul Rahman meted out the fine on company owner Khiew Tok Pin, 33, under Sections 6(1) and ( 8) of Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 Act 4 after he had pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the brief facts of the case, Khiew committed the offence when he failed to contribute to Socso for the months of September and October 2015.

The contributi­on was RM16.90 per month.

The employer had been reminded numerous times before action was finally taken against him.

Masroeni Jaraie from Sarawak Socso prosecuted while the accused was not represente­d.

According to statistics from the Enforcemen­t Branch of Socso Sarawak, 29 employers were taken to court between January and June 30 this year for various offences under the social security organisati­on.
