Assemblyman pulls on jersey to play in veteran football tournament
BAU: All eyes will be on Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep as he pulls on a football jersey to play for his village team Tanjung FC in a football tournament here.
According to Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, Henry’s team will participate in the 2018 YB Miro Simuh Cup football tournament from August 5 to September 23.
The tournament is open to veteran football teams in Bau district.
“Organisers intend to provide an opportunity for the veteran players to showcase their skills after being involved in the sport for a long time. These players have vast experience in participating in tournaments before this,” he added during the tournament’s opening ceremony last week.
Henry’s team however lost their opening match to Bokandis FC 0-2.
A total of 14 veterans teams are competing in the tournament at Kampung Kandis Baru field, Bau. They are Komah Rangers, PKSS, Bokandis FC, Tanjung FC, Sagah FC, Matoru FC, FC Scouts, FC Segovia, One V Utd, SSSRC Veterans, Trivilla FC, KSRK, VAT OBJ and PKSS Utd.
Miro said the competition was more about leisure activities that allowed veteran players to meet in nostalgia and reminisce their yesteryears.
The tournament’s champion will receive a cash prize of RM1,500 plus trophies and medals while the runner-up will receive RM1,000 cash, trophies and medals and third and fourth place winners will bring home RM750 and RM500 in cash besides trophies and medals respectively.
