Julau folk in ‘best of both worlds’ scenario with representation in state and federal governments
JULAU: The people here can consider themselves fortunate to be in a ‘best of both worlds’ situation where they have representation in both state and federal governments.
Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat said with him as their state representative and Julau MP Larry Sng part of the ruling federal government, Julau folk are definitely on the winning end when it comes to development.
“As part of the Sarawak government, I will continue to fight for your share of development funds especially for the delivery of utilities, road connectivity, communication, education and other amenities,” he said at a ‘mangkung tiang’ (house-warming) ceremony for the new Rumah Gramong in Pasir Puteh at Nanga Ayam, Meluan last Saturday.
He said he would help expedite perimeter survey exercises on some 20,000 hectares of native customary rights land and some 10,000 hectares of communal reserve land, to enable local folk to develop their land for commercial agriculture.
Sng, who was also present at the ceremony, concurred with Rolland’s view and pledged to deliver all promises made during the campaign trail in the recent parliamentary election.
He said among other things, he would source for funds for the construction of roads in Ulu Mujok, Ensiring and Entabai, electricity and water supply, as well as a health clinic and fire station to cater to Meluan and Pakan.
At the same function, both Rolland and Sng presented minor rural project grants of RM10,000 and RM5,000 respectively to the longhouse following a request by Tuai Rumah Gramong Elong.
