China TV crew in town to film tourism-based show

MIRI: A television production crew from China are currently here for the next eight days to shoot a tourism-based show featuring the northern region of Sarawak.

On hand to welcome the Guangdong Radio and Television crew on Sunday was Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who said such programmes will assist the Sarawak government in luring more tourists from China to visit the state.

“China has always been at the top of the list of Sarawak in terms of tourism promotion. Hopefully, with more tourism-based television programmes on Sarawak to be aired in China, it will help to attract viewers in China to choose Sarawak as their next preferred destinatio­n for vacation,” he told the media during a welcoming dinner for the visitors.

Besides introducin­g places of interests in the city, Lee said the production crew will also focus on ethnic food, culture and the uniqueness of the people in Miri.

For the shooting schedule, the crew will visit Miri Handicraft Centre, local markets, Piasau Nature Reserve, Miri City Fan, Tua Pek Kong Temple, Mulu National Park, Luak Esplanade, Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort, Tusan Beach and Miri Crocodile Farm.

From here, the crew will depart for Sabah on Aug 10 to shoot a similar programme, before returning here on Aug 12 for shooting works at Curtin University Malaysia, Petroleum Museum and Coco Cabana.
