Call to register for National Diabetes Camp by Aug 12

MIRI: Diabetics who have yet to register for the National Diabetes Camp on Aug 17 to 19 at Jinhold Hotel and Serviced Apartment here are encouraged to do so before Aug 12.

“We hope more diabetics would register as it is really a great opportunity to gain knowledge about their condition and health. We had to make early payment to confirm the venue and had therefore set the closing date on Aug 12 for 50 persons. Anyone who wants to join after the closing date is welcomed if space is available,” said organising chairman Dato’ Dr Fam Tem Lom.

Miri MP Dr Teo Yu Keng will officiate at the opening on Aug 17. Other invited guests included Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Organised by Diabetes Malaysia, Miri branch the camp will feature 15 sessions of workshop conducted by dieticians, pharmacists and specialists including head of department and psychiatrist Dr Bawih Inu Pu’un, senior consultant ophthalmologist Dr Kenneth Rohan Lee Chee Keong, senior consultant endocrinologist Dr Kuan Yueh Chien, head of department and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Norzatulsyima Nasirudin; dietiticians Azleen Jamil and John Kong Jian Pei; pharmacist Gladys Joseph, and head of department and physiotherapist Sia Lee Lee.

A special forum on healthy eating with diabetes will also be conducted by a private food company to help plan healthy daily meals.

“Those who are really interested to participate but face financial constraints may contact us for assistance,” he added.
