Mass folk dance display entertains festival crowd

KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) Kuching Festival 2018 Mass Folk Dance Display saw hundreds of dancers performing at the Hockey Stadium here on Sunday night.

Dressed in colourful costumes, 32 local and 13 invited dance groups from Sibu, Lawas , Bintulu, Sabah, Johor, Penang, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan entertaine­d the crowd with folk dances.

“I hope dance instructor­s will recruit more youths to ensure traditiona­l dances continue to exist by passing it on to the next generation,” said event organising chairperso­n Cr Kho Teck Wan during the launching of the event.

She added that folk dances reflect culture and identity as it also incorporat­es traditiona­l music, musical instrument­s and even religious practices.

The display was watched by Kuching Festival goers who dropped by from the food fair just across the road from the stadium.
