Special allocation for Musang King seedlings, says Uggah

MIRI: The Ministry of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t has provided a special allocation of RM2 million to Sibuti, Lambir, Piasau and Marudi constituen­cies to purchase Musang King durian seedlings.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the initiative is part of the ministry’s effort to improve the lives and income of people in the rural areas.

“Our ministry will distribute RM500,000 to each of these constituen­cies for the purchase of Musang King durian seedlings,” said the deputy chief minister when officiatin­g at the second edition of Mardi Gras Lambir here yesterday.

“Sarawak created history last year by exporting 16 tonnes of raw durian paste to China. This shows the future of our durianbase­d products is bright.

“This will help eradicate poverty and address the issue of income disparity between urban and rural communitie­s,” he added.

Uggah also reminded the people to change their mind set as agricultur­al activities including durian farming can be another source of income.

Former deputy chief minister and Sarawak Informatio­n Systems Sdn Bhd (Sains) advisor Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Assistant Minister of Local Government cum Marudi assemblyma­n Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Lambir assemblyma­n Ripin Lamat, Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini, Miri mayor Adam Yii and event organising chairman Pemanca Wilson Siang were among those present at the event.
