Special allocation for Musang King seedlings, says Uggah
MIRI: The Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development has provided a special allocation of RM2 million to Sibuti, Lambir, Piasau and Marudi constituencies to purchase Musang King durian seedlings.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the initiative is part of the ministry’s effort to improve the lives and income of people in the rural areas.
“Our ministry will distribute RM500,000 to each of these constituencies for the purchase of Musang King durian seedlings,” said the deputy chief minister when officiating at the second edition of Mardi Gras Lambir here yesterday.
“Sarawak created history last year by exporting 16 tonnes of raw durian paste to China. This shows the future of our durianbased products is bright.
“This will help eradicate poverty and address the issue of income disparity between urban and rural communities,” he added.
Uggah also reminded the people to change their mind set as agricultural activities including durian farming can be another source of income.
Former deputy chief minister and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (Sains) advisor Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Assistant Minister of Local Government cum Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini, Miri mayor Adam Yii and event organising chairman Pemanca Wilson Siang were among those present at the event.
