MIRI: Tzu Chi Taiwan Buddhist Foundation Miri Branch (Tzu Chi Miri) will be collaborating with Miri Second-Hand and Dealers Association and Miri City Council (MCC) to jointly organise a beach cleaning campaign from 7.30am to 9.30am on Aug 31 at Marina Beach here.

The campaign will be Tzu Chi’s third beach cleaning campaign this year following the success of the previous two campaigns which were held in Lutong beach and Miri Marina Beach respectively.

According to a press release by Tzu Chi yesterday, the campaign will be focusing on plastic trash and its impact on the marine life.

Single-used plastic cups, straws and water bottles are some of the plastic items that are mostly found in the ocean and all the items are said to be hazardous to the marine life.

During the beach cleaning campaign, all rubbish will be segregated according to its elements and to be sold to recycling company. The proceeds from the sale of the trash will be donated to the needy through Tzu Chi Miri.

Participants from private and public agencies are encouraged to take part in the event.

For safety reason, participants are reminded to wear appropriate attire such as long sleeve shirt and long pants with shoes.

They are also reminded to bring their own drinking water and mosquito repellent and hat to protect themselves from the sun.
