Oppo F9 launched, Oppo R17 and Realme 2 units coming soon
OPPO, the Chinese tech brand that presented the world’s first bezel-less smartphone featuring a pop-up camera (the Oppo Find X), launches its F9 and R17 phones this week.
There may be a second flagship from Oppo sub-brand Realme on its way as well.
The Oppo F9 was launched in Vietnam on Aug 15, the event poster revealing a tiny notch design and fast charging.
The 6.3-inch screen (the same size as the Galaxy Note 8) has an impressive 90.8% screen to body ratio, with a tiny ‘waterdrop’ notch — just big enough to occupy the speaker and a 25MP selfie camera. Combined with a main camera consisting of a 16MP + 2MP dual shooter, it’s likely to appeal to photo enthusiasts shopping for a device around US$300 (RM1,230).
The Oppo F9 comes with the firm’s proprietary VOOC charging and 3500mAh battery. The official product video advertises “5minute charge, 2-hour talk time”.
The device ships on Aug 24 in three colours: Sunrise Red, Twilight Blue, and Starry Purple (speckled with gold stars). The price in Vietnam is 7,690,000 dong about RM1,357. Oppo R17 An even bigger and better handset, the 6.4-inch inch can be seen in full on the Oppo Shop site — giving away most of the specs, except the price. It was launched yesterday. The brand continues to push technological boundaries, introducing a 91.5% screen-tobody ratio (more than the F9), Gorilla Glass 6 protection and in-display fingerprint sensor.
Like the F9, the mainstream flagship will adopt the new waterdrop notch design, 25MP front-facing camera and feature a 3500mAh battery with VOOC Flash Charge. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, the R17 will ship with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage — providing fast performance for a model likely to sell for around US$550 (RM2,255).
