Would you like to involve in conducting clinical trials at clinical research conducting company?

If this is what you want, consider a healthcare profession and a career as a pharmacist, the medication expert.

A pharmacist serves patients and the community by providing information and advice on health, supply of medications and delivering other professional pharmacy services.

They are also engaged in the preparation, dispensing and appropriate use of medication, resulting in the desired safety and effective therapeutic outcomes. A pharmacist can also work in pharmaceutical, cosmeceutical and nutraceutical industries at various levels.

Pharmacists must learn about the chemistry, evolution and procedures involved in the development, preparation and administration of medications. This knowledge allows them to be experts in understanding the effects and the use of drugs in preventing and treating diseases.

Pharmacy career options includes patient education, retail or chain community pharmacy ownership or management, pharmacy practice within hospitals, nursing homes, government service, in pharmaceutical industries within various departments such as raw material dispensing, production, quality control, quality assurance, research and development, formulation and development, packaging and stores, management, sales and marketing.

Pharmacist also involves in clinical research organizations, conducting research, and administration.

There is also opportunity in conducting research at higher degree level and pursue a career in academic.

At the International Medical University (IMU), a private university awarded the SETARA-2017 with the rating of 6 stars (Outstanding) under the Mature University, we provide options to complete the entire pharmacy programme locally at IMU or credit transfer pharmacy programmes to the University of Otago, New Zealand or University of Tasmania, Australia.

These international partnerships are a clear testament of the alignment of IMU’s innovative education to global standards. Taught by an experienced and practicing faculty, you will be given relevant practice exposure as part of the pharmacy course.

This is to better prepare you for patient care, pupilage training and employment, making graduates highly employable. The Bachelor of Pharmacy programme is largely based on body systems and integrates the study of these systems in health and disease with the study of drug treatment.

In addition, students will also be studying on various dosage forms along with preparation, testing and evaluation.

Students will be systematically exposed to community, industrial and hospital pharmacy settings as their internship in the final year.

Core disciplines such as pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry and microbiology are integrated with the study of human body systems in health and disease, health education and promotion, dispensing skills and behavioural aspects of practice.

A scientific ethos and rigour will be developed in the students as Semester 7 is devoted to research.

Er Jia Lin, IMU’s Final Year Pharmacy Student, said “Beyond academic, university is where I improved personal development and enhance personal and intellectual maturity. I am extremely honoured and appreciative to be an IMU student as during the pharmacy programme, I was exposed to syllabus that equipped me with adequate knowledge to venture into the pharmaceutical industry, clinical practice in hospital or community pharmacy in the future.” The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme commences in July and September.

Despite being a local programme, students studying in this degree programme have the opportunity to go overseas for elective placement or course.

Studying Pharmacy in IMU also uniquely provides an opportunity for students to integrate with medical and other health sciences programmes.

This provide a platform for inter-professional learning, close friendships and sets the foundation for future working relationships which may lead to business partnerships after graduation.
