Penguang: Marudi constituents eager to receive Musang King seedlings
MIRI: People in Marudi constituency are looking forward to receiving Musang King seedlings under a special government initiative, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said.
The Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development has provided a special allocation of RM2 million to Sibuti, Lambir, Piasau and Marudi constituencies to purchase Musang King durian seedlings.
“We will identify the potential planters in Marudi. The ministry will set up collection centres to buy all those durians produced locally including the Musang King,” Penguang, who is Marudi assemblyman, said when contacted.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced this initiative at the opening ceremony of the second edition of Mardi Gras Lambir here last Saturday. He said the initiative is part of the ministry’s effort to ensure that the lives and income of people in the rural areas continue to improve.
Penguang thanked Uggah for this programme, saying it will help selected households to earn extra income and boost rural economy.
According to Uggah, the ministry will distribute RM500,000 to Sibuti parliamentary constituency for the purchase of Musang King durian seedlings and a similar allocation would be extended to Lambir, Piasau and Marudi state constituencies.
