LIMBANG: Parents are advised to take care of their children’s hygiene to help reduce the spread of hand, foot and mouth disease ( HFMD) in the state.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said washing hands before eating and other good practices are key to controlling the nationwide increase in cases of HFMD.

He reminded parents or guardians to keep a close eye on their children and immediately send them to the clinic or hospital for treatment if they have symptoms of the disease.

“We are all aware that the disease is related to hygiene and paying attention to personal hygiene is imperative in controlling the spread of HFMD,” he told the media after launching Sarawak Women’s Association ( PPWS) Anjung Waisan Tiga Saampun, Kampung Benuas branch here yesterday.

Present were Limbang district officer Awang Said, Limbang District Council chairman Sufia Mohat, PPWS Limbang chairman Jaliha Besar, Limbang and LASP PPWS manager Nurul Izza Hanis, PPWS Kampung Benuas chairman Rohani Rajeh, Penghulu Abu Tinggal and Kampung Benuas chief Ismail Nayan.

In a statement issued earlier, State Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim disclosed that Kuching recorded the highest number of HFMD cases in the state, followed by Miri and Sibu divisions. Limbang recorded 215 cases from January to Aug 11.

Though the HFMD is under control in the state, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, advised the people to report to the hospital if they know of new cases.

Meanwhile, he said the Anjung Waisan Tiga Saampun at Kampung Benuas will enable the village PPWS to hold more activities and programmes in Limbang.

At the event, he approved a minor rural project ( MRP) grant of RM3,000 to Kampung Benuas PPWS.
