Local universiti­es embracing Industrial Revolution 4.0

KUCHING: Local universiti­es play a significan­t role in assisting government transforma­tion and producing human capital to propel the nation towards success.

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, who pointed this out, said local universiti­es were embracing the Industrial Revolution 4.0 by engaging experts in related field with focus on innovation­s.

“Local universiti­es have thrived and had proven themselves as evidenced by their current good rankings. For example University of Malaya is in the Top 100 QS World University Ranking and University of Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Mara are in Top 50 of the QS Asia University Ranking 2018,” said Kadim.

He was speaking at the Local University Administra­tor Day celebratio­n at the Kuching Waterfront Hotel, here yesterday.

Kadim pointed out that the dedication of local universiti­es management from top management, lecturers down to clerks, admin staffs and lab assistants is vital to ensure that the university is able to provide quality education to students.

“University administra­tion at the same time needs to ensure that all aspects of the student, be it academic, co- curriculum, welfare, financial and other matters are well taken care of,” he said.

The event, held alongside the Local University Administra­tor Convention was participat­ed by 156 local and private universiti­es.

Among the programmes held during the three- day event were scavenger hunt along Kuching, education forum, idea exchange session, poster competitio­n and exhibition.
