This year’s event, themed ‘Act Justly, Love Tenderly, Walk Humbly With God’, will start at 7.30pm, with Very Reverend Monsignor William Sabang, Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Church, offering the Opening Prayer.

Organising chairman Father Jerome of St Joseph’s Cathedral Kuching said they expect 2,000 people to attend the service.

“We work for the common good of our nation Malaysia,” Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Most Reverend Simon Poh, told a press conference yesterday.

“Malaysia’s National Day is about our nation Malaysia. So let’s work towards (that) for the common good of all Malaysians,” he said.

The archbishop emphasised that “we should not let politics and religions drive us apart during this period of time”.

This year’s service will cover different themes of scripture readings and prayers.

Recitations of the Holy Scripture will be in different languages and a combined choir comprising members of different churches will be leading the service.

Elder Ambrose Linang, who is secretary general of ACS, stated that invitations had been extended to Christians members of the State Legislative Assembly and Parliament, heads of government departments and agencies and other faith groups.
