300 expected at charity run to promote mental wellness

KUCHING: Some 300 participan­ts are expected at a charity run to promote awareness of mental wellbeing on Nov 3.

The event is organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus to raise funds for the Group Home (formerly known as The Halfway Home), Mental Health Associatio­n of Sarawak (MHAS) Kuching Branch.

Themed ‘ SwinCARE Fun Run’, it is a 5km-running event that will take place at the university’s campus at Jalan Simpang Tiga here.

According to a media release, it is in aid of the Group Home that offers support and rehabilita­tion to patients recovering from mental illness and helps prepare them with the necessary skills to earn a living.

MHAS Kuching Branch chairperso­n Dr Gan Chee Kuan will flag off the run at 6.30am.

The route covers Swinburne campus, Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, Jalan Rock, Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, Jalan Tun Jugah, returning to Jalan Ong Tiang Swee and ends at the campus.

Registrati­on fee is RM50 inclusive of t-shirt, medal and refreshmen­ts.

The run is open to students and staff of Swinburne as well as members of the public.

The first 60 Swinburne’s students and staff to register will receive a cash voucher worth RM25 from Angelus Fitness.

The organising committee is also seeking sponsorshi­ps from interested parties who would like to be part of the event and contribute to the funds.

The representa­tives are available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Registrati­on deadline is Sept 25.
