Bintulu FA to elect new president on Sept 22

-

BINTULU: All positions right up to the presidency will be contested at the Bintulu Football Association ( Bifa) annual general meeting (AGM) at Parkcity Everly Hotel here at 9.30am on Sept 22.

Incumbent president Duke Janteng, who has been at the helm for three terms, will not be defending the No. 1 post for the new committee for the 20182020 term.

“I will not defend my position but I will give way to a new face to lead Bifa,” he said when contacted.

He explained that his decision was mainly because there are a few talented individuals from the clubs who were active on the ground and have big potential to lead the association.

The AGM is open to al l members and registered football clubs in Bintulu.

Duke urged all clubs, club chairmen, secretaries and other committee members who have paid their membership fees for the 2016-2018 term to be present at the AGM.

“The sport commissioner will also be invited for the AGM as an observer and I have contacted Sarawak Football Association who will be chairing and coordinating the AGM,” he revealed.

He added that to ensure a smooth transition of power Bifa is also seeking advice from the legal team to ensure all procedures are based on Bifa’s constitution.

Nomination forms for those who wish to contest can be obtained from Bifa secretary Ibrahim Tahir who can be contacted at 010-2329927.

Nomination will open on Aug 31 with the closing date on Sept 14.

The outgoing president noted that during his time in office Bintulu had many representatives in the Sarawak senior and youth teams. Bintulu also finished second in the 2017 Sarawak Cup.

He also said Bifa organised women’s football and produced many players and helped contribute to a good Sarawak team.

“The biggest programme hosted by Bifa with Sarawak Energy Berhad and Lea Sports Centre is the rural youth football development programme currently being held from April 14 to Sept 9. The teams are vying for the Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom football cup in the final, “Duke added.
