Sempurai: SRDC assures residents of balanced development

SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) assures the public of balanced development in areas under its jurisdiction, including Sibu Jaya new township, for the well-being of its residents.

Its chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, in giving this assurance, said the systematic and beautiful landscape in Sibu Jaya as well as the green lung areas would be preserved to protect the environment.

“Without a clean and wellmaintained environment, we cannot live comfortably in our housing areas,” he said when officiating at the opening of Sibu Jaya Fun 5 Carnival (Fiesta Sibu Jaya Ambang Merdeka) on Tuesday evening,

The event, which runs from Aug 21 till Sept 2, is jointly organised by SRDC, Distrepark Sdn Bhd and Embun Kiara Sdn Bhd.

Sempurai praised Distrepark for not only building houses in Sibu Jaya, but also proactively taking a bold step in carrying out landscaping work at residential and shophouse areas, especially at Sapphire East, based on the concept of building and landscaping.

He said at Sapphire East, for instance, the shophouses there are of modern design, which indirectly altered the development and landscape design in Sibu Jaya with a modern and attractive design.

He believed this would indirectly transform Sibu Jaya into a modern and vibrant township. Touching on the event, he said there was the need to know the nation’s history in order to truly understand the meaning of independence.

“For us in Sarawak, there are two important dates to remember, namely July 22 (self-rule) and Sept 16 ( Malaysia Day), so that we can understand our history better.”

Sempurai also called on Sibu Jaya residents to continue working closely with the council to keep vandals at bay.

He added that CCTVs had been installed at strategic locations at the commercial centre in Sibu Jaya to ensure the safety of residents and to help the police reduce the crime rate in the area.
