Kuching Polytechnic promotes English through festival
KUCHING: Kuching Polytechnic and the Polytechnic and Community College Education Department Curriculum Division promoted the use of English through the recent Borneo English Language Festival 2018 (BELFest 2018).
The festival also shared the various cultures of Borneo while promoting the use of the English language to non-native English speakers from across Malaysia.
A press release said as a technical education hub, Kuching Polytechnic is very serious about producing holistic graduates, who are able to communicate well in English.
“We hope this event helps to empower and shape students as leaders and to be examples in their respective institutions,” said Polytechnic and Community College Education Department senior academic director Zainab Ahmad during the closing ceremony.
“We wish to instil confidence and mastery of skills and public speaking techniques in English among students through the activities.”
Among the activities were Public Speaking, Way with Words, and Language Explore Race.
“Activities conducted around Kuching encouraged the use of English in the real context with the local community, while challenging our creative thinking, leadership as well as teamwork, and brought participants closer to the local community,” added Mukah Polytechnic student Weselley Bingkok.
The three-day event involved 128 students from polytechnics and community colleges nationwide.
