SEB has set aside RM1.56 million for turtle sanctuary

SEMATAN: Sarawak Energy Berhad ( SEB) has set aside RM1.56 million as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) solar project for Tanjung Datu National Park, Pulau Talang Talang Besar and Pulau Talang Talang Kecil.
From the amount, RM700,000 is set aside for Tanjung Datu National Park, while Pulau Talang Talang Besar and Pulau Talang Talang Kecil receive RM560,000 and RM300,000 respectively.
According to SEB vice-president ( Research and Development) Dr Chen Shiun, the projects, which started in May last year, have been completed.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the project at Pulau Talang Talang Besar today.

He added that the project would eliminate noise from the generators, which were used before the completion of the project, and disturbed turtles during the nesting process, adding that using generators also incurred higher cost. The capacity for the Tanjung Datu project is 21.2KWp/ 400KWh per day using lead acid, while the Pulau Talang Talang Besar (10.62KWp/ 20KWp/ 20KWh per day) uses lithium-ion, and Pulau Talang Talang Kecil (7.08KWp/ 15KWh per day) uses lead acid.
About 10 SEB staff were involved in the project, which Chen said helped to promote volunteerism among the staff.
