-

MIRI: Two youths arrested for suspected theft were ordered to be remanded for three days by a magistrate's court here yesterday.

Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie gave the order after allowing a remand application by investigating officer Sergeant Johnny Mathew Jang.

In his remand application, Johnny said on Aug 3 this year, a 50-year- old man lodged a police report at Miri Central Police Station with regard to a missing back cover of his four-wheeldrive vehicle.

The complainant said that he found the item missing from his vehicle, and believed it to have been stolen at about 8am on July 29 from his house compound in Taman Jelita here.

According to him, such incident had happened before where two tyres and rims were stolen.

Based on the information received, at about 3.10pm on Sept 10, police arrested a 16-year- old male youth at a house in Taman Jelita for suspected involvement in the theft.

Following the arrest, police were led to a house also in Taman Jelita and arrested the second suspect, aged 18 around 3.30pm the same day.

Both suspects were later brought to Miri Central Police Station.

Johnny had earlier applied for a fourday remand against the suspects under Section 117 of the Penal Code to facilitate police investigation. However, the court only granted a three- day remand until Sept 14.
