Abang Johari urges IntEC to play role in renewable energy, IBS
KUCHING: It is hoped that the proposed Sarawak International Engineering Centre ( IntEC) can serve as an integral part of Sa rawak ’ s r e s e a rch in human capacity bui lding in engineering, particularly in the fields of renewable energy and Industrialised Building System ( IBS).
This was the message conveyed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to The Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Sarawak branch ( IEM Sarawak) delegation during a courtesy call at his office in the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) here recently.
Abang Johari expressed his wish to see IntEC spearheading engineering- related researches in Sarawak and that the centre would work closely with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas).
He also gave assurance that he would fully support the development of IntEC, and requested that IEM Sarawak ensure that full ownership of the centre shall come under the branch once completed.
He also advised IEM Sarawak to look to IEM Malaysia for professional knowledge transfer and that the branch should play an advisory role in the Sarawak development programme such as providing engineering input and future plans.
Led by IEM Sarawak chairman Haidel Heli, the purpose of the courtesy call was to thank the Sarawak government for granting the one- to- one matching grant for the proposed development of IntEC, which was announced during the institution’s annual dinner in June.
During the visit, Abang Johari was also briefed on the status of the proposed project by IntEC development head of standing committee and project director Vincent Tang Chok Khing, who is also IEM Sarawak immediate past chairman.
