Three women share experiences, struggle with cancer
KUCHING: Three women shared their experiences and struggle with cancer at a talk titled ‘My Story, Your Story, Our Story’ organised by Sarawak Women and Family Development Department yesterday.
Giving their testimonies were Emelyne Carmen Ho who shared on ‘My Journey to Becoming Fearless: My Story; Dany Neb ( My Road to Recovery: Breast Cancer Survivor); and Malaysia’s celebrity, Zarina Zainuddin, who talked about ‘ My Life as a Caregiver: Me and My Autistic Children’.
The event was organised in conjunction with the statelevel Women’s Day themed ‘Women and Health’ that will be celebrated next month (November).
It was graced by Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, who was also the moderator of the talk.
“Our wishes for those who are here today are to listen to these three personalities whom we have chosen, so that they can be your inspirations.
“These inspirations are important for us to know where these personalities’ strength came from, so that they can be our inspirations to achieve wellbeing for our self, family and community,” she said at the function.
Fatimah said the personalities were from different backgrounds and of different age.
At 20 years old, Emelyne Carmen Ho who shared her life as a thalassaemia survivor was the youngest among them.
Meanwhile, Fatimah said a Health Run would be held on Nov 4 as part of the activities to celebrate Women’s Day which falls on Nov 3.
“We are also in the process of producing a book called ‘Sarawak Women in Wellness’ among other activities which will be part of the Women’s Day celebration,” she added.
Yesterday’s sharing event was attended by about 1,200 people from all walks of life.
Among them were Assistant Minister of Law, StateFederal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
