Caring, guiding of Tunas Bakti residents being enhanced

-

MIRI: Efforts in caring and guiding wayward teenage girls at the Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre here ( Tunas Bakti) to acquire knowledge and living skills are being enhanced.

This is made possible with Persatuan Wanita Petroleum Miri ( PWPM) starting their weekly voluntary programmes at the school yesterday, which is part of their annual charity events this year.

“Besides the donation of a RM1,500 portable speaker to the home, our committee member held a cooking demonstration for the students trainees to kick start our weekly voluntary work, which runs from 9am to 11am every Wednesday.

“Also, five boxes containing small cuts of fabrics are given to the girls for their patchwork activities,” said their president Srimuniyati Cranfield when addressing them at the school yesterday.

The school principal, Evelyn Cliff Imang, and PWPM exco members and teachers were also present.

“We hope with these little contribution the girls would be able to learn many new things to help generate income for them in the future,” Cranfield said.

She thanked the school management for giving them the opportunity to carry out the charitable and voluntary programmes in line with their objectives to help the less fortunate people here.

Evelyn, meanwhile thanked the petroleum ladies and Cranfield for selecting their school as one of beneficiaries of their charity and voluntary programmes.

“Your efforts will go a long way in helping to realise our goals in providing shelter, counselling and skills training to the juveniles,” she said.

The school has 11 trainees, and among their activities besides going to school, are attending integrated culinary vocational training and tailoring.

The skills acquired should enable trainees to secure jobs upon completion of their training.
