Limkokwing University to open more Africa campuses

GABORONE ( Botswana): Limkokwing­University­ofCreative Technology (Limkokwing) plans to open four more branch campuses in Africa by the first quarter of 2019.

The university’s industry empowermen­t senior vicepresid­ent, Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hisham, who was at Limkokwing University Botswana’s ninth convocatio­n ceremony Thursday, said the campuses will be in Uganda, Namibia, Nigeria and South Africa.

He said it is part of efforts to change the landscape of education in Africa, as well as ensure that the relationsh­ip between Malaysia and the continent continues to thrive.

“The African marketplac­e is made up of over a billion people. The cultural and creative sector is growing at a rapid pace here and worth over US$ 4 billion, making it a major driver of economic growth,” he added.

The convocatio­n ceremony saw more than 400 students from all over the continent graduate in various discipline­s such as graphic design, fi ne art, public relations, architectu­re and e- commerce.

Botswana’s Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Ngaka Ngaka, also attended.

Limkokwing is one of the most well-known Malaysian universiti­es for internatio­nal education in Africa, with branch campuses here, in Lesotho, Swaziland and Sierra Leone.

It was founded in 1991 by Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing with a mission to transform the youth into confident, skilled and techno-savvy individual­s who will contribute creatively and innovative­ly to the world’s economy. — Bernama
