IGEM 2018 to spur green economy, platform for Industry 4.0

KUALA LUMPUR: The Internatio­nal Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM), one of the region’s most successful green technology, business and innovation platforms, returns to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 17 to 20 for its ninth edition, with 250 exhibitors, and a projected 30,000 visitors from over 30 countries to generate an estimated RM2.5 billion in business leads.

Organised by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environmen­t & Climate Change (MESTECC) through Malaysian Green Technology Corporatio­n (MGTC), visitors to IGEM can expect a myriad of environmen­tal technology breakthrou­ghs, ecofriendl­y concepts and sustainabi­lity solutions applicable to every level, from policy makers to enterprise, public and personal.

Speaking about IGEM 2018, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environmen­t and Climate Change, Yeo Bee Yin said, “With the global green economy gaining momentum, Malaysia has an opportunit­y to not just participat­e but actually lead the green agenda in the region.

“To step up to the green game, we see IGEM playing a pivotal role in bringing together sustainabi­lity solutions that are practical, proven and cost-effective.”

“With this year’s theme focused on delivering the United Nation’s Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals, I urge all Malaysians to support this internatio­nal event, explore businesses, new markets and be a part in growing the green economy,” she added.

Themed ‘Green Economy & Industry 4.0: Achieving Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals’, IGEM 2018 will continue to showcase renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste and manufactur­ing, while exploring new frontiers in technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT), system integratio­n and Big Data.

IGEM 2018 will host a series of conference­s featuring over 40 panel speakers from renowned organisati­ons including EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI), Capital Markets Malaysia (CM2), The Embassy of the Republic of South Korea, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), The British High Commission, Constructi­on Industry Developmen­t Board (CIDB) and Malaysia Green Building Confederat­ion (MGBC).

For the first time, IGEM will also be playing host to the World Energy Cities Partnershi­p – Mayors’ Congress, organised by DBKL.

Yeo will be spearheadi­ng a series of town halls, round tables and forums with representa­tives from industries, financial institutio­ns, entreprene­urs, special interest groups and delegates in positionin­g Malaysia at the forefront of green agenda.

With over RM19 billion generated in business leads throughout IGEM’s history, this year’s business networking sessions are organised by MGTC, Malaysian Investment Developmen­t Authority (MIDA), and the Malaysia External Trade Developmen­t Corporatio­n (Matrade).

Since its inception in 2010, IGEM had seen over 400,000 visitors and 2,300 exhibitor booths from 50 countries.

The first three days of IGEM 2018, October 17 to 19, are open to trade visitors. The last day, October 20, is open to the general public.
