investors first and foremost. The state government needs to know in detail about the status of these investing companies and also that of their associate companies that they proposed to participate in their projects,” he said.
On Tuesday, Awang Tengah was briefed by Beca Sci-Tech from China which has indicated its interest in investing in the state’s petro- chemical industry.
He said the Sarawak government also needs to study in detail the plan of Beca Sci-Tech and its downstream products that could benefit communities surrounding their proposed petro- chemical industry.
“In view of the petro- chemical investment of Beca Sci-Tech, the company is also required to tell the state government of its ‘ feedstock’ suppliers, apart from detailed information on its plan and proposed project,” he added.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, said he is happy with this latest development and hopes that the proposed project would become a reality.
“Assistance will be provided to smoothen the process of implementation involving any foreign investment project,” he pointed out.
The meeting with Beca SciTech was held at Awang Tengah’s office at Wisma Sumber Alam in Petra Jaya here, and was attended by Assistant Minister of Industries and Investment Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Deputy State Secretary Datu Abu Bakar Marzuki, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Datu Liaw Soon Eng, Regional Economic Corridor Development Authority ( Recoda) CEO Datu Ismawi Ismuni and Beca Sci-Tech chairman Fridy Dong, among others.
