PETALING JAYA: A welder was sentenced to three months’jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for concealment of more than RM18,000 belonging to another person.

Magistrate Salamiah Salleh handed down the sentence on MohammadFahmiShahrulAruwar who pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was charged with concealment of RM18,700 belonging to Bong Lan Chin, 39, by depositing it into his bank account, despite knowing that it did not belong to him.

The offence was committed at CIMB Taman Kinrara, Puchong Jaya, here last between last Sept 9 and 11.

The charge was made under Section 424 of the Penal Code which provides an imprisonment for up to five years, or fine, or both upon conviction.

Mohammad Fahmi was ordered to serve the jail sentence from his date of arrest last Sept 27.

However, before handing down the sentence, Salamiah advised Mohammad Fahmi to be more wary and not to easily trust other people, including lending his bank card to unknown persons.

“You have to be more careful, even when lending your bank card to your mother...don’t fall victim to a third person,” she said.

According to the facts of the case, Mohammad Fahmi had given his bank card to his mother, who then gave it to a third person, said to be a member of a syndicate who had cheated Bong into depositing RM18,700 into Mohammad Fahmi’s bank account.

Earlier, during mitigation, lawyer Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff, representing Mohammad Fahmi, said his client was a victim of a syndicate and was used by a third person.
