Pageant winner says her belief in ‘Law of Attraction’ pays off

-

SIBU: Sharon Frederick Asu who won in the recent Mrs Sarawak 2018 Pageant is a strong believer in the ‘ Law of Attraction’ where you focus your mind on the things you want to achieve and turning them into reality.

“That’s why I worked hard and with solid dedication in the pageant held in Kuching recently.

“To be honest, it wasn’t an easy task to win the prestigous title as the other contestants were equally good if not better than me,” she said.

Sharon said this was so when she knew that it was going to be tough especially after getting to know the finalists.

Speaking during an interview at her home in Sukun Road here recently, Sharon said she appreciated the effort of the contest’s main organiser, Cassie Bong of Elegance Weddings & Events Management, in coming up with a beauty contest specifically for married women in Sarawak.

Sharon said she saw the contest as a platform for her to build and create her mission of empowerment.

“I’ve had a good start when I won the contest. When I was announced the winner, I shed tears of joy and thanked God for the victory,” she recalled.

On her preparation for the contest, the 40-year- old said she learned and trained on stage presentation, public speaking, general knowledge, catwalk, poise and so on.

“It’s important to be mentally and physically prepared.”

Sharon had to travel to-and-fro Kuching during the course of the contest.

Contestants were required to take part in visits to charitable homes such as the orphanage home, talent shows and games.

“It was taxing. I’m a working mother with four children aged from three to 20. I had to juggle my time to fit in the activities connected with the contest.

“This required mental and physical fitness. I am blessed to have a very supportive husband. He and my children had stood by me all along,” she enthused.

On the crown she has now on her head, Sharon said the crown per se does not empower her.

“What’s important is that the people and the community believe in the crown that I’m wearing as it puts a great responsibility on my shoulders,” she said.

Besides the recent contest in Kuching, Sharon had joined other contests like the “MBF Beauty Queen Kuala Lumpur 1998”, the “Mrs Ratu Kebaya Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak 2016” in Miri and the “Indai Kumang Raban Pengelandik Jari 2017” in Bintulu.

Meanwhile, Bong explained the Mrs Sarawak Pageant was created out of respect and admiration for married women of Sarawak.

“The purpose of this pageant was to honour and pay tribute to them, well designed to recognizse and reward the intelligence, success, strength, beauty and resilience of married women.

“We were looking for women who are competitive, have self- esteem with a tolerance for difference in others, aggressive in their quest to shine on stage, confident in public speaking, goal- driven, energetic and able to promote positive welfare for themselves and others,” she had said in 2014.

“It is about being an icon and motivation to all married women to keep maintaining their inner beauty,” she pointed out.
