“We also welcome more sponsorships. The surplus after deduction of expenses shall be donated to needy charitable organisations.

“We have also sent out invitations to sports and recreational clubs, colleges, schools in Sibu to participate in this event. We are accepting voluntary organisations and individuals to help in this event,” Pang added.

Meanwhile, during the run launching in Pulau Langkawi on Sept 4, NAMLIFA national president KP Lim said the objective of the run is to create awareness amongst Malaysians on the importance of having insurance coverage as the penetration rate in Malaysia is only 56 per cent while for Family Takaful, it is trailing behind at 14.8 per cent as of last year.

“As an important stakeholder to life insurance industry, NAMLIFA has taken this initiative to contribute positively to our nation’s economy, in tandem with the aspirations of Bank Negara Malaysia to pursue the goal of having 75 per cent of the population insured by the year 2020,” he said.

He added half of Malaysian population are moving around each day without any insurance coverage or risk management knowledge.

“Thus, any emergency arises due to death, disability or loss of working capability will result in severe financial losses for families, leading to social problems for the country, he added.
