Association urges government to provide financial assistance to Border Scouts

-

KANOWIT: The Ex- Police Association of Malaysia ( PBPM) branch here appeals to Sarawak and federal governments to provide monthly financial assistance to former policemen like the Border Scouts, who are not receiving monthly pensions.

PBPM Kanowit chairman Liew Tubow said this was among the issues raised during its 16th annual general meeting at the multipurpose hall here on Thursday.

“This matter has been brought up many times during our association meetings at national and state levels, but there is no answer so far from the relevant parties.

“We hope this matter would be taken for consideration since most of them are getting old and not in good health, and they really need monthly financial assistance,” he said.

In addition, Liew said the association had proposed to build a multipurpose hall to conduct their activities and administrative affairs.

The premises would accommodate the PBPM Kanowit office, a mini museum and a gallery to keep historical exhibits like those related to Indonesia- Malaysia confrontation and the communist insurgency era, as well as the May 13, 1969 racial riot, he said.

It is learnt that PBPM Kanowit has been using Liew’s house to organise its activities because the association does not have its own premises.

Meanwhile, PBPM Sarawak secretary Nichol Nyambang said they proposed to include the names of 78 Border Scouts officers and members who perished in the course of their duty, onto the Kanowit Warriors Monument at Fort Emma Square here.
