Practise culture of excellence, rep tells constituents

-

LONG LAMA: The people of Telang Usan are encouraged to practise the culture of excellence in their daily lives to make the constituency a progressive and admirable place to live in.

Speaking at the launch of Marudi District Council’s community programme here yesterday, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau advised his constituents to make excellence ‘a way of life’ in order to positively change their standard of living.

“The people of this constituency must also complement the state government’s efforts in improving their daily lives and bringing progress.

“I believe all of us want an interesting living environment where every morning, when you wake up, you already feel excited to go through your daily chores, day in and day out.

“Mind you what I am talking about here is not something new; it’s been practised by some among us even in Long Lama in their own way but without making any noticeable difference.

“We need the entire population of Telang Usan to agree and start practising this culture to enable our vision to see Telang Usan, particularly Long Lama town and all the longhouses and settlements, become a good place to stay in,” he said.

Dennis outlined that the ‘culture of excellence’ encompasses almost all the little things in the way one lives in a community.

He cited Japan as a place where the people have high self- discipline and strong respect – traits that have brought about a high degree of progress to themselves and their country.

“We must start from now and show a good example to the young among us. I am very much aware that this call is tough but as your elected representative, I want to bring progress in tandem with what is happening around us today and tomorrow.

“We cannot just leave it to the government departments and agencies to make our place clean, peaceful and progressive with well- maintained landscapes,” he reminded, pointing out that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg and his entire cabinet are sincere in ensuring that the rural areas, including Baram, are being developed.

Dennis also informed that Telang Usan and Mulu constituencies would see rapid infrastructure works under the Highland Development Agency ( HDA), starting next year.

Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai and Telang Usan District Officer Baru Taii were also present at the event.
