Rosey urges rural folk to take active part in community activities

MIRI: Rural folks are advised to participat­e actively in any community activity organised in their respective areas.

Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus said the community activities are aimed at engaging the rural folks to be more open minded, providing them space to enhance their capacity in various aspects of developmen­ts.

“Living in the rural areas should not be an excuse to not keep abreast with mainstream developmen­t agenda. Instead, the rural folks should grab every opportunit­y provided by the government. to ensure they do not lag behind in the developmen­t agenda,” she said when officiatin­g at a telematch, karaoke competitio­n and Kebaya Queen contest held at Batu Niah Community Hall on Saturday.

Rosey who is also Bekenu assemblywo­man encouraged the rural folks in her constituen­cy to join various associatio­ns as a way to improve social interactio­n as well as share knowledge especially on living skills.

She pointed out that the government also provided various assistance to develop women’s capacity in entreprene­urship and helping to uplift their living standard.

“My ministry as well as welfare department is always there to assist the women particular­ly single mothers in entreprene­urship. It is because we believe that entreprene­urship is able to help the women to generate additional income for their families thus helping them to get out from poverty.”
