Children learn value of food at famine camp

SIBU: More than 40 students from SJK( C) Methodist here participat­ed in an 8- hour Kidz Famine DIY Camp at its premises here yesterday.

Chairman of the School Board of Management Tan Sri Datuk Tiong Su Kouk officiated the oneday event.

According to the event’s coordinato­r Ting Leh Ing, the mini camp was set up for children under 12 years old.

“Through a series of games, recreation­al activities and educationa­l materials, the children can experience the feeling of hunger and understand the value of food and appreciate it.

“Moreover, through this programme, they will learn to care for other children and people in need around the world and contribute their strength and love, be more compassion­ate, understand teamwork and increase trust in each other.

“It also allows children to learn through the camp’s fundraisin­g towards a worthy cause,” Ting added.

Meanwhile, Tiong commended the organiser for holding such a meaningful programme for the school.

He said through this programme, the young would have a very good start to appreciate the value of life and caring for the unfortunat­e and needy in the world.

This, he pointed out would instil discipline and mould them to be caring and useful citizens.

He said they should count themselves fortunate to be able to enjoy more comfortabl­e life than their counterpar­ts in other parts of the world.

Tiong also hoped similar programmes would be organised for the good and benefit of the children in their process of growing to becoming useful citizens and future leaders.
