SMK Sacred Heart honours students for leadership, character
SIBU: Three teachers received Best Teacher Awards during SMK Sacred Heart Speech Day 2018 here recently.
Ting Kung Jin received RM2,000 while two other recipients – Linda Yip Soon Liang and Ngu Siu Chai – got RM1,000 and RM500 respectively.
Outstanding Student Awards were given out to Andrew Ling, Greg Ling, Stephanie Wong and Collin Rezuan while Kelvin Hii was awarded the Best Leadership and Character Award, Each received a laptop.
The Best Student Award recipients were Jose Emiliano Uzaraga, Ngu Chi Ong, Wong Hung Ming who each received RM500 while Judy Wong Shi Ping and Ngien Sen Fon received RM1,000 and RM2,000 respectively.
Other awards included Invaluable Contributions and Excellent Leadership, Outstanding Character, Outstanding Achievement in Co- Curriculum Activities, Achievements in Quiz & Academic Competition, Outstanding Performance in 2018 School Examinations, Best Student for Each Subject and Outstanding Performance in Public Examinations.
Jetris Foo was named Rev. Brother James’ Best Sport Boy while Brave Heart Award went to Yii Ming Li who was diagnosed with Graves’ disease (over-active thyroid) when she was 12 years old.
Yii has been suffering from hyperthyroidism for the past six years.
Meanwhile, SMK Sacred Heart principal David Teo Wu lauded patron of the annual Speech Day, Tan Sri Clement Hii, as an exemplary successful old boy who contributed to the excellence of students and his alma mater for the past 15 years.
“Tan Sri’s generous contribution to the school and the Speech Days is to inspire and motivate students and teachers to do their best in all aspects of their school life. Our outstanding public examination results and co- curricular achievements are proof of the ultimate hope of Tan Sri’s coming true,” Teo said in his opening remarks at the school’s speech day 2018 here yesterday.
On academic achievement the principal said the school has once again achieved another milestone in the STPM examination by being the only school in Sabah and Sarawak to make it into the country’s top schools for two consecutive years 2016 and 2017.
The school recorded a 98.5 per cent passes in SPM 2017 with a School Average Grade of 2.98, ahead of many residential schools in the state.
Sacred Heart Secondary is one of the top three schools in Sarawak for the SPM examination.
He added that the school has also excelled in its co- curricular activities.
