Nine Myanmar workers killed after van catches fire

BANGKOK: Nine migrant workers from Myanmar were burnt beyond recognitio­n after a van they were travelling in hit a tree by the roadside and burst into flames in Kamphaeng Phet province, central Thailand yesterday morning.

According to Klongkhung district police chief Col Narakorn Boonkrob, six other passengers in the van, including its driver, were injured in the 7am ( local time) accident.

“The van was on its way to Mae Sot district in Tak province near the Thai-Myanmar border from Petchaburi province ( central Thailand) when the accident occurred,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

The injured passengers were admitted to a nearby hospital, said Narakorn, adding that two of them sustained serious injuries. — Bernama
