Beautification, removal works to continue, assures SRDC
SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) has assured residents that it would continue beautification efforts, as well as to remove illegal chicken coops and cages, to spruce up and ensure cleanliness in areas under its jurisdiction. Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said the operation to demolish illegal structures in Sibu Jaya residential areas was carried out on Oct 5, adding that such exercise would continue to be carried out until the target is achieved. “The (demolition) team comprised zone councillors, SRDC’s public works section, public health section, enforcement section, and also police. It was led by council assistant secretary Hiu Kee Sing,” he said during the full council meeting here yesterday. “During the first operation, the team managed to dismantle illegal chicken coops and cages,” he added. Meanwhile, Sempurai said the beautification works were carried out in Selangau last month.
Council secretary Justani Joni led and monitored the works, assisted by zone councillors, SRDC’s enforcement, public works and public health sections, as well as Selangau police. “The beautification works involved clearing vegetation, bushes, fruit trees and rubbish to spruce up the area.
“The works will continue to be carried out in stages throughout Selangau bazaar,” he said.
On the rabies situation, Sempurai reminded residents to continue exercising caution to keep the virus at bay.
“The council works together with other agencies in monitoring the situation, besides assisting the Veterinary Services Department to vaccinate all dogs within SRDC areas.”
